SABC Education continues to partner with the Electoral Commission (IEC) in delivering voter education to communities across South Africa, reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening democracy through informed civic participation.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, the voter education campaign is currently being rolled out across 13 SABC Radio stations, SABC 1, SABC 2, digital platforms, podcasts, social media channels and online content, ensuring that South Africans have access to accurate, accessible and impartial electoral information in their preferred languages.
The campaign focuses on equipping citizens with the knowledge they need to participate confidently in the electoral process. Through engaging educational content, audiences are encouraged to understand voter registration, the electoral system, how to correctly complete ballot papers, and the importance of active participation in South Africa’s democracy.
Importantly, the campaign educates citizens on how to vote, rather than who to vote for, reinforcing the Electoral Commission’s constitutional mandate to promote free, fair and credible elections.
Special emphasis is being placed on:
- Young South Africans aged 16 years and older to encourage early civic education and voter registration awareness.
- First-time voters and previously disengaged citizens, inspiring greater participation in shaping the country’s democratic future.
Commenting on the continued partnership, Jacqui Hlongwane, Genre Manager: SABC Education and Children, said:
“The SABC and SABC Education in particular values its longstanding partnership with the IEC, which reflects our shared commitment to strengthening South Africa’s democracy through public education. Together, we continue to empower citizens with credible, accessible information that promotes civic awareness, informed participation and active citizenship. Through SABC’s television, radio and digital platforms, this content is made available in different languages, ensuring it reaches and resonates with audiences across the country, empowering them for the upcoming Local Government Elections.”
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Electoral Commission, Sy Mamabolo, also welcomed the continued collaboration.
“Our partnership with SABC ensures that all citizens, across all languages and communities, have access to accurate and timely electoral information ahead of Election Day. Voter education is a critical part of ensuring that citizens are well-informed for greater participation in the electoral process. We call on communities to engage with voter education content across all platforms for a fuller understanding of the electoral processes.”
By leveraging the reach of public broadcasting and digital platforms, SABC Education and the IEC continue to empower citizens with the knowledge needed to participate meaningfully in the country’s democratic processes.
South Africans are encouraged to tune in to participating SABC Radio stations, watch SABC television channels, visit SABC Education’s digital platforms, and engage with voter education content as part of the ongoing national effort to build an informed, active and engaged electorate.Get Up.
