Icasa to monitor SABC's new editorial policies
Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring that broadcasters adhere to the broadcasting act.
The communication watchdog was responding to the South African Broadcasting Corporation ( SABC) announcement on Thursday that it is embarking on a review of it's editorial policies.
Speaking on Morning Live, Icasa spokesperson, Paseka Maleka says it’s imperative that the public broadcaster takes the document to all the seven provinces for public engagement. Paseka says they will monitor the process closely.
“Icasa will follow the processes and see how far it goes but whatever decision is taken afterwards, after the public consultation, we will do our own monitoring to see if everything was done,” says Maleka.
Last year, the SABC landed into hot water after it amended its editorial policy without engaging its stakeholders.
