Freedom Day is a day we commemorate a major South African milestone, but for us we also welcome a new face.
We say bonjour to SAFTA award winner Vele Manenje. Manenje will be introduced to Skeem Saam playing the character of ‘Evelyn’ who seems strange at first, makes a sudden delivery at Charles’shop.
Hailing from Ga-Mothiba, Evelyn is a former schoolteacher who is intelligent and well-spoken. She is also a zealous reader with a fondness for poetry and meets a man with whom she forms a deep romantic connection. Any guesses as to who the mystery man might be?
Vele was born in Venda but grew up in Johannesburg. Starting out as a child presenter on several kiddies shows, she had the desire to pursue the arts at a very young age. She is a passionate thespian who went to the National School of the Arts and furthered her studies in Communication Sciences at UNISA.
In the past she has had roles in, A Place Called Home, Single Guys and many more. She has also had roles in the theatre productions of How I Learned to Drive, Black Bling, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors and Hotel Paradise.
When asked about how she felt about joining Skeem Saam she said, “Working on Skeem Saam has been an amazing journey, filled with such warm welcoming hands from crew to the cast members. It is truly a colourful environment being on set and the fact that most of the stories are set on Polokwane ground makes it feel like home. I’m excited to breathe life into Evelyn, especially on a platform such as this”.
Viewers can look forward to seeing her debut on the 27thApril 2021.
#SkeemSaam airs every weeknight on SABC 1 at 18.30pm
